The Solutions Project 2018-2025

Humanity Communications Collective partnered with The Solutions Project for seven years to build a powerful climate justice storytelling engine that elevated frontline leadership. Together, we co-created innovative campaigns like Black Climate Week and Climate Curious, while authentically bridging grassroots organizing with celebrity platforms. The result was 34.6 million+ impressions, $42 million in amplified climate justice funding, and a lasting shift in national climate justice narratives.

Humanity Communications Collective (HCC) served as an embedded communications partner for The Solutions Project (TSP) from 2018–2025. More than just a vendor, we became a trusted thought partner, strategist, and execution team, helping TSP build a storytelling infrastructure that could adapt, grow, and authentically elevate frontline leadership.

In 2018, TSP had strong funding and grantee relationships but lacked the communications infrastructure to match its ambitions. Stories of transformative climate justice work risked being overlooked, while traditional environmental narratives sidelined equity and frontline leadership.
    Key Challenges:
  • Limited internal communications capacity to keep up with storytelling opportunities.
  • Underdeveloped social media strategy in a landscape dominated by traditional environmental groups.
  • Difficulty translating complex, interconnected wins into accessible, resonant content.
  • Need to authentically connect grassroots organizing with celebrity platforms.
HCC created a long-term, integrated strategy that transformed TSP’s communications capacity and national visibility.
    Strategic Actions:
  • Narrative Building: Designed storytelling systems that amplified grantee victories while tying them to national and global climate goals.
  • Campaign Innovation: Launched Black Climate Week (2021) as an unapologetic celebration of Black-led climate solutions, now a nationally recognized, award-winning campaign.
  • Educational Storytelling: Produced Climate Curious (2020), a digital series bridging science, justice, and culture in accessible formats.
  • Celebrity Partnerships: Managed authentic collaborations with Mark Ruffalo, Don Cheadle, and Regina Hall—including Hall’s #WCW campaign spotlighting 100+ women in climate leadership.
  • Adaptability: Pivoted during the COVID-19 pandemic to highlight grantees’ mutual aid work, integrated a full rebrand, and adjusted strategies in response to platform changes.
